Cinekid 2020 – Live from Het Ketelhuis in Amsterdam and Lux in Nijmegen

Week 1 from Het Ketelhuis in Amsterdam:

10/10 11:00 – 13:00 | The Schoolgarden

A number of Amsterdam school classes are followed for a year in various school gardens around the city. Here, the schoolchildren learn how to sow carrots, to fertilise the soil, when to harvest vegetables and what burrows through the garden while you are asleep.

11/10 11:00 – 13:00 | The Crossing

In 1942, the war suddenly gets very real for Gerda and Otto. Their parents are arrested and they find two Jewish children their own age hiding in the basement from the Germans. The four of them decide to escape and set out on an exciting, dangerous journey through Norway to the Swedish border.

12/10 13:30 – 15:30 | Marked for Life

Documentary (in collaboration with War Child) by YouTuber, presenter and War Child ambassador Quinty Misiedjan about how child refugees can remain children in an environment full of insecurity, fear and violence. Quinty travelled to Jordan and Colombia, and visited a Dutch asylum-seekers’ centre to get to know the stories of these children and witness their strength and resilience.

13/10 – 13:30 – 15:30 | Marona’s Fantastic Tale

The colourful, playful and moving life of a dog thinking back to the owners she has had. As a puppy she was abandoned on the street and saved, before finally finding a home with a girl. It is wonderful to see how the highly original drawings in this animated film full of amazement, love and change dance with pleasure.

LIVE: Prize winning animator Sjaak rood will teach you all about animation at Ketelhuis, but everyone at Eye, Studio/K, Forum, Filmschuur and Concordia will practice their animation skills as well!

14/10 – 13:30 – 15:30 | Sune – Best Man

Sune doesn’t know what to do: go on the secret school trip with Sophie, a lovely girl in his class, or to his nice grandpa Helmer’s wedding. He’d love to do both, but that’s really complicated. Then his parents get involved and things get even crazier in this fast-paced, highly imaginative comedy with some surprising action.

15/10 – 13:30 – 15:30 | Calamity, a Childhood of Martha Jane Cannary

In this film, real-life Wild West heroine Calamity Jane is still young, and called Martha Jane. During the great trek West, she has enough of doing ‘women’s work’. In this beautifully animated adventure, the plucky girl goes her own way and discovers an exciting world of new friends, tricky hustlers, thrilling escapes, prospectors and campfires beneath the stars.

16/10 – 13:30 – 15:30 | Rudy’s Crazy Christmas Show

Popular young pop singer Rudy is accidentally kidnapped by the parents of Sara, who’s seriously ill. Rudy’s family do everything they can to get him back, but as Christmas approaches Rudy and Sara become closer. Does he want to return to a life in the spotlights?

LIVE: Dance along at Studio/K, Forum, Filmschuur and Concordia with Rudy (Kylian) and the rest of the cast who are at Ketelhuis teaching us the dance from the brand new videoclip!

Week 2 from Lux in Nijmegen:

17/10 – 11:00 – 13:00 | Long Live the Queen

Sarah buys a chess set with her pocket money. In her imagination, the game comes to life. In fact, the chess pieces teach her – even the queen! She gets so good she is allowed to challenge a famous grandmaster. Along the way she learns a lot more about her father, who she never knew.

18/10 – 11:00 – 13:00 | Catfun

Cheerful animal and nature film starring the most famous cat in the Netherlands: Abatutu. This furry Dutch celebrity has collected the best, funniest and cutest videos about his feline friends, and provided them with a commentary. After all, he knows all about cats and their love-hate relationship with water, cats who play musical instruments and red-carpet cats.

Jackie, daughter of a Rijksmuseum curator, makes friends with Oopjen, who steps right out of her Rembrandt-painted canvas! She lost her sister Aeltje during the ‘Golden Age’. Streetwise Jackie decides to help Oopjen in her search. But how do you introduce your new BFF to an entirely alien world?
